2. Bundesliga: Hansa Rostock sends Arminia Bielefeld back into the crisis

Status: 02/10/2023 10:19 p.m

Arminia Bielefeld also lost its second home game this year in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 0:1 (0:0) against Hansa Rostock, not only the result was disappointing, but above all their own performance.

After the away win at Jahn Regensburg (3:1), Bielefeld initially gave the impression of wanting to step up their game. Only the feat of Hansa goalkeeper Markus Kolke prevented the hosts from taking the early lead after Sebastian Vasiliadis released the ball and scored from close range (6th minute).

Replacement coach de Souza sees Rostock getting stronger

A little later, however, Rostock got into the game better and gained the upper hand against Arminen with an intensive style of play. The Hanseatic League also had opportunities offensively, Kai Pröger had the best chance – but Arminia keeper Martin Fraisl also showed after his solo and low shot that he has mastered his craft (19th).

The team of Danilo de Souza, who replaced head coach Daniel Scherning, who was ill with a virus, was mainly physically inferior and also failed to convince in terms of football. Above all, it was not possible to integrate Masaya Okugawa, who had returned from the starting eleven, into the game. Nevertheless, there was another chance for the opening goal, but Lukas Klünter aimed just wide of the opposing goal from eight meters (35th).

Fröde redeemed goalless guests

After the half-time break, Rostock was rewarded for the effort – and punished Bielefeld’s sleepiness. Defender Andrea Andrade blundered after a long ball and gave Svante Ingelsson the opportunity to cross to Lukas Fröde, who made it 1-0 with a header (52′). It was the first goal in a competitive game for Hansa this year after the 2-0 defeats in Heidenheim and against Hamburger SV.

And a little later, Fraisl prevented the second Rostock goal with another strong save after Dennis Dressel had tried from a distance after winning a duel (59th). The Bielefeld game, on the other hand, continued to impress with its unimaginative and one-dimensional nature. Despite the physical superiority, the hosts kept trying high balls – which were always repelled without any problems.

Bielefeld without danger in attacking play

The harmlessness underpinned that Theo Corbeanu only fired Bielefeld’s first shot on goal after more than 27 minutes. And that was an attempt from around 30 meters that Kolke flew safely into his arms. Fabian Klos also seemed very unhappy from close range on what was actually a good opportunity, lobbed the ball away from the Rostock goal at the corner of the opponent’s six-yard box (78′). Shortly thereafter, Klos at least let a hint of danger flash when he finished after a cross, but aimed too high (80th).

Again Arminia disappointed across the board in their own stadium and didn’t get any more chances to score. This was already the case in the first home game of the year, when it was also against a direct competitor in the fight against relegation. SV Sandhausen (1:2) was in Bielefeld for the start of the second half of the season, and the defeat against Rostock at the latest should have made it clear to the East Westphalians, who had started the season as a candidate for promotion, that for them in this form it was just a matter of remaining in the 2 .League goes.
