The goal had an effect on the initially courageous Ingolstadt team: the bottom of the table lost access and despite the lack of offensive chances, Heidenheim had the game under control.

After the restart, the Ingolstadt team showed what they had planned for the second half. After a first good chance after just a few seconds, Christian Gebauer scored the equalizer with his head in the 47th minute. The Heidenheim keeper who had no chance, Kevin Müller, who had not had to hold a ball up until then, was served.

Just four minutes later, coach Frank Schmidt’s team had every reason to celebrate again. Tobias Mohr scored from 25 meters to lead Heidenheim again and made Ingolstadt keeper Dejan Stojanovic look bad. The euphoria of the guests at the beginning of the second period has now subsided a bit. Instead, Heidenheim kept up the pressure, but midfielder Norman Theuerkauf missed two 100% chances and failed to secure victory early on.
