Mia Griesel and Anna Hursey win the doubles title at the U19 World Championships. After falling behind, they showed strong nerves and defeated the favored Chinese.
Mia Griesel and Anna Hursey showed a remarkable performance at the U19 Table Tennis World Championships in Cluj. After falling behind by two sets against the favored Chinese Zong Geman and Qin Yuxuan, they secured the doubles title.
The two young players demonstrated exceptional nerves in the final. They fended off three match points and turned the game around to a 3-2 win. Griesel, who plays for TTC Berlin Eastside, and her partner Hursey from Wales surprised the table tennis world.
After the triumph in Cluj, 19-year-old Griesel said: “I’m very happy and can’t believe it yet.” Together with Hursey she already won the U21 European Championship in doubles. She was also part of the German national team that won the European Team Championship title in Zadar in October.
This victory is the second German junior world championship title in table tennis within twelve months. Annett Kaufmann triumphed in the individual last year.
