15 illegal dumpers caught and fined in Izegem
No matter how hard municipal workers try, they keep finding litter. Every now and then there are cameras around some bottle banks in the city to deter illegal dumping. But Izegem also acts differently.
“Our employees themselves, after they have cleared up an illegal dump, will really sort everything out, literally, that is really dirty work. They will literally look in the dirt to see if there is a label with a name on it or a ticket of a shop or whatever is present with something recognizable on it, with a name on it and that is how we try to catch the perpetrator,” says mayor Bert Maertens.
Anyone caught will be fined and since this year it has even increased somewhat: a gas fine can amount to 350 euros and also a fee for cleaning up the rubbish of 275 euros.
