12 pages of comic strip Kama and Herr Seele stolen, estimated value 120,000 euros

Together with a laptop they were stolen from the car of an employee of the publishing house in Anderlecht. He left the car unattended for a moment, and at that moment the drawings disappeared.

Cartoonist Herr Seele estimates the value at 10,000 euros per page, but the thieves probably don’t know its value. Kama and Herr Seele have only made three long stories, it is one of the highlights of their early work, they say, a textbook example of absurdism and an important work in Belgian comics history. In 2014 they won the patrimony prize at the Angoulême comics festival for Cowboy Henk. Herr Seele: “It’s like a child being kidnapped. They are important comic pages from my oeuvre. It’s my beginning career. It’s an album that was made in 1983 for Humo.”

The chance that the drawings will be found is small, fears Herr Seele. “Look at that again. We’ll see. Kama also said, and that’s funny: you can redraw it. You should never steal from an artist who is still alive. I could perfectly redraw it in the old style of the past .”

Herr Seele also has the copies of the original drawings.
