Julian Pollersbeck is the fifth new signing at 1.FC Magdeburg. After Transfermarkt reported at the beginning of the month that the second division club was very interested in the 28-year-old goalkeeper, the club confirmed the deal on Thursday evening. The FCM did not provide any information about the contract period. Pollersbeck is on a free transfer, having previously terminated his contract with Olympique Lyon, which ran until 2024.
“I know Julian from the past. With him we gain an experienced goalkeeper who also has a good understanding of the game,” said Magdeburg coach Christian Titz, who appreciates the footballing skills of the former U21 international and therefore made him number one at Hamburger SV with his attacking style of play. Pollersbeck is the third ex-HSV professional after Xavier Amaechi (22) and Jonah Fabisch (21) to join Titz in Magdeburg this summer.
1. FC Magdeburg with Julian Pollersbeck “prepared for certain eventualities”
“In Julian we are getting a goalkeeper who has already played internationally and has Bundesliga experience. Thanks to his signing, we are very well positioned in the goalkeeper position and prepared for certain eventualities,” said FCM sports director Otmar Schork. The latter statement could mean the injury-related absence of regular keeper Dominik Reimann (25), who missed the last games of the season due to pubic arthritis – an injury that can last for months in footballers in bad shape.
Since moving to Lyon in 2020, Pollersbeck has only made eleven appearances in the first team. A loan to FC Lorient should remedy the situation in the winter, but the keeper was always on the bench or was not called up for the squad.
