Jonas Urbig brings a lot of money to the 1st FC Köln. But was it right to sell the 21-year-old to Bayern? The next few months will decide.
If the 1. FC Köln has properly negotiated with FC Bayern Munich, the transfer for Jonas Urbig can grow by many million euros in the coming years. The so -called base revenue is said to be between seven and eight million euros, and around three more million should be added via bonuses.
So far, however, it is not known whether the FC has also secured a resale clause. Such a passage is common in a transfer contract, especially among top talents as young as Urbig. This clause is usually between eight and 15 percent and refers to the profit that FC Bayern could make in the event of a resale. If this clause exists, FC could re -incorporate several million in the coming years.
The responsible persons made the first mistake in the summer when they declared Jonas Urbig to be the new number one after the relegation, but Marvin Schwäbe was not sold. The 29-year-old did not find a new club, although FC was convinced that they were selling the veteran for several million and strengthening Urbig. That failed, and so the inexperienced Urbig went into the season with his predecessor on the neck. And it was clear: every mistake in Urbig would result in a goalkeeper discussion.
After ten games in the 2nd Bundesliga, FC finally found itself in a tangible crisis. Also because the billy goats with Urbig had conceded 20 goals in goal. Although this was guilty of 19 of these 20 goals, coach Gerhard Struber had to decide at short notice – and, at the request of some experienced players, took out of the goal, also at the request of some experienced players.
However, this was by no means the key to the success of the following months. Because not only Swabia became number one again. Struber also switched the tactics and built a triple chain in the future. The result: FC stayed in seven out of eleven competitive games without a goal, Schwäbe only had to grab four times. Above all, because the FC enabled the opponents significantly less chances than in Urbig’s time.
The decision against Urbig and the subsequent success made a return of the goalkeeper talent to the Cologne housing practically unthinkable for the foreseeable future. Urbig knew that he would initially no longer come to the train in Cologne. And so FC Bayern took the opportunity to sign one of the largest goalkeeper talents in Germany – for a transfer amount that is more negligible from a Munich perspective, but means a quantum leap for 1. FC Köln.
So so inevitable the sale of Urbigs after Munich Was, the people responsible have to show that they let their words follow deeds. After the hard renovation of the past two years, it was said that from now on the money should be invested in sporting competitiveness. And so above all the urbig millions.
Sports director Christian Keller will have to be measured by these statements. The Urbig sale allows those responsible to act with more funds in the search for strikers in winter. Above all, however, the deal increases the possibilities with a view of the summer of 2025. It has been known for a long time that the squad has to be reorganized in large parts. Now the financial framework for this undertaking has been significantly expanded. Keller and his team will have to show in summer at the latest that they have grown to this task.
