The 1. FC Köln can hold Jan Thielmann and binds the versatile winger in the long term. On Saturday, the Bundesliga promoter announced the contract extension by 2028, two years more than before. At the age of 23, the Cologne -based own plant, which was last associated with RB Leipzig, was already in more than 100 games in the upper house. In the past second division season, Thielmann, defensive and offensive mainly, contributed two goals and three templates on the right. He was also used as a center forward, as in the past several times.
“In our eyes, Jan shines a lot from how we imagine the 1. FC Köln in the future: he has a high identification with the task of developing a great mentality and daily will to develop,” said sports director Thomas Kessler about Thielmann, who gave his professional debut in 2019. Despite his 23 years, he has an “impressive experience”, added the official. “At the same time, his path is not yet over – we are convinced that Jan has further potential. We wish that he will take over more and more responsibility with his character and mentality in the coming years and take a leadership role in our team.”
Thielmann emphasized: “The FC is my club. And Cologne is now my home. After the relegation last year, I consciously decided to stay here and bend it again. We have decided together to return to the Bundesliga. I am very proud of that. Now I would like to take the next step, take more responsibility, but also playfully come to another level again in the next few years in the Bundesliga play.”
