Said El Mala apparently has to wait even longer for his debut for the German senior national team. After only sitting on the bench in the 2-0 win in Luxembourg on Friday evening, the shooting star of 1. FC Köln is now set to leave the DFB team. This is reported by the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger”.
El Mala will be removed from the squad before the final game in the World Cup qualification against Slovakia on Monday evening (8.45 p.m.) in Leipzig. Karim Adeyemi, who was suspended in Luxembourg, returns. El Mala should instead join the U21 national team, which will face Georgia in the European Championship qualifiers on Tuesday evening (6 p.m.).

Should Said El Mala make his debut in Luxembourg on Friday evening, 1. FC Köln would have a German senior national player in their ranks for the first time since Jonas Hector. The date would be fitting: Hector celebrated his debut in the DFB jersey eleven years ago to the day, on November 14, 2014 against Gibraltar.
El Mala’s jersey number for the national team is also reminiscent of the long-time Cologne captain. After being nominated for the first time, the shooting star wears the number 14 on his back. This was the number Hector played with FC throughout his entire career and also with the DFB team in the meantime.
