1. FC Cologne | Heintz? modest? Zoller? Hot Return Rumors

Two games, zero points and 15th place in the table: 1. FC Köln’s start to the Bundesliga season was anything but ideal. In order to get out of the table cellar as quickly as possible, Effzeh is currently still thinking intensively about reinforcements.

Recently, players who already have a past at Geißbockheim have been associated with 1. FC Köln. Above all, defender Dominique Heintz should be brought back to the Rhine.

According to information from “Express”, the club should deal “intensively” with signing the 30-year-old again. Heintz played for 1. FC Köln in the Bundesliga between 2015 and 2018 and made his breakthrough in the Bundesliga with the people of the cathedral town.

After being on loan at VfL Bochum, he returned to 1. FC Union Berlin this summer, although he is said to no longer have any great sporting prospects there.

Simon Zoller is also currently without a sporting perspective at VfL Bochum. The 32-year-old came on as a substitute in VfL’s 5-0 start at VfB Stuttgart, but was not even in the squad against BVB at the weekend.

Zoller was also recently associated with a return to Cologne, as he also played for the Rhinelanders between 2014 and 2018. Recently, however, there have been increasing signs that the striker could be drawn to the 2nd Bundesliga in the direction of Fortuna Düsseldorf.

According to “Bild”, Zoller is said to have already obtained the approval of his previous club. His contract in Bochum runs until the summer of 2024.

No signs of Modeste’s return to 1. FC Köln

Meanwhile, there should be no concrete clues regarding Anthony Modeste and 1. FC Köln. The ex-scorer, who is currently without a contract and who recently kept fit with fourth division club Fortuna Köln, is repeatedly associated with a return to Effzeh on social media.

The reason for the speculation is the ongoing back problems with regular player Davie Selke and the apparent lack of a qualitatively equivalent replacement. Selke had been injured in each of the previous three competitive games.

The now 35-year-old Anthony Modeste played for BVB for a year last season, but was nowhere near able to match his performances from the Cologne past. He only scored twice in 19 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund and never received a new contract.

There has been increasing speculation about a possible fourth attempt at 1. FC Köln after 2015, 2018 and 2021 in the past few days. Until recently, however, there were no concrete signs of a Modeste commitment.
