1-5: Zulte Waregem does what it has to do!

The assignment for the Essevee players was very clear: Zulte Waregem had to win today. Only then would they have a chance of survival.

After just five minutes, the more than 600 fans who traveled along were rewarded with a goal. Fila tapped Ruud Vormer’s free kick against the nets. Five minutes later, Fadera was able to double the lead, but Paeshuyse managed to put his foot in between. The signal for Eupen to step up a notch, but it was Zulte Waregem who was allowed to celebrate again on the half hour mark. After a free kick, Vormer put the ball well to Ndour, who in turn serves Gano. He was able to put the 0-2 past Eupen goalkeeper Moser with a good tap. A little later it was party time again at Zulte Waregem. Another free kick with Vormer, Gano was again on duty. Five minutes later, Gano completed the hat-trick with Vormer again: 0-4.

Vormer crowns a strong match

As good as the first half started for Essevee, as badly as the second started: after playing football for just a few seconds, Smail Prevljak scored the 1-4 in two times. The hopes of a recovery from the home team were dashed on the hour mark: Jelle Vossen put the 1-5 on the board, but the ball had crossed the line in the preceding phase. The VAR intervened and erased the goal. It turned out to be only a stay of execution for Eupen. After three assists and a pre-assist, Ruud Vormer crowned his fantastic match in minute 79 with a great goal. The Dutchman bounced over Eupen goalkeeper Moser on a pass from Fadera after a quick counter.

It is also the victory of hope for Zulte Waregem because the relegation has been averted for a while today. On the final day, Zulte Waregem will take on Cercle Brugge in-house, and even then there must be a win.
