The Eisbären Berlin have received another setback in the German Ice Hockey League. On Wednesday evening, the defending champion lost the top game at runner-up EHC Red Bull Munich 1:4 (0:1, 0:1, 1:2).

Marcel Noebels’ goal wasn’t enough for the capital city team to prevent their third defeat in their fourth game of the season.

In front of 3048 spectators in the Olympic Ice Stadium, the Berliners lost a few pucks in the early minutes and revealed weaknesses on the defensive. Former Eisbären professional Austin Ortega took advantage of one of the hosts’ numerous chances to take the lead early on.

In the course of the first third, the capital city increased, but could rarely pose a threat to the Munich team.

After the first break, the Berliners did more on the offensive, but the home side extended their lead with a power play goal from Benjamin Street. Noebels scored the goal in the final third when the polar bears were outnumbered. But Munich’s Maximilian Kastner restored the old distance a little later.

Shortly before the end of the game, Benjamin Smith made the decision with the hosts’ fourth goal.
