1-0 in Dortmund: Viktoria gets some air in the relegation battle

Viktoria Berlin has continued its successful streak in the relegation battle of the 3rd football league. Four days after the surprising 2-1 win over leaders Magdeburg, the Berliners won 1-0 (0-0) in the promoted duel at Borussia Dortmund II on matchday 33.

In the game with few highlights, Soufian Benyamina scored the goal of the day after just under an hour at Signal-Iduna-Park on Saturday. Viktoria is four points ahead of the first relegation zone occupied by SC Verl, who take on VfL Osnabrück on Monday.

Viktoria coach Toku trusted the team that defeated league leaders 1. FC Magdeburg last Monday. Viktoria began very cautiously and initially let the hosts have possession of the ball without putting themselves in danger. The Berliners even had the best opportunity when Franck Evina narrowly missed the Dortmund box in the 22nd minute. At the other end, Abdoulaye Kamara shot just wide seven minutes later.

Kamara also had the first chance eight minutes after the break, but his shot from the edge of the box missed the Berlin box. The lead for Viktoria was all the more surprising. Moritz Seiffert passed the ball to Benyamina, who was lurking on the edge of the penalty area, and slipped away to put the ball in Dortmund’s box (59′).

Viktoria then switched to counterplay and stood firmly in defense. The hosts, who ran up without a concept, didn’t get a chance anymore.
