AZ – FC Twente 0-0
Ruben van Bommel shoots a free kick from about 18 meters into the wall. The subsequent corner kick is headed high over. This gives AZ the best chances.
There could have been more to it. With a clever ball, Ernest Poku puts his teammate Peer Koopmeiners in a promising position. The midfielder cuts down his opponent, but is then unable to get a shot.
After a long attack by FC Twente, the ball reaches Ricky van Wolfswinkel. From the spin, the striker produces a roller into the hands of goalkeeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro.
The tone has been set. Ricky van Wolfswinkel continues on to Wouter Goes, who lies down for a while with pain in his ankle. With Van Wolfswinkel’s next ball contact, Alexandre Penetra hits the Twente striker hard.
The visitors now have more control, but without becoming really dangerous. The Tukkers put more and more pressure on AZ and therefore forced possession of the ball.
A great opportunity for AZ! From a corner kick, Wouter Goes initially heads into goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall, on the rebound Sven Mijnans taps the ball towards the goal and his effort is cleared just before the line.
Maarten Martens’ team has more ball possession and combines well in the opening phase. AZ could even have played for an opportunity, but Ernest Poku was just unable to accept a through ball in the penalty area.
The ball rolls in Alkmaar during the match between AZ and FC Twente. If they win, the Alkmaarders will climb to fifth place in the Premier League.
The last three meetings between AZ and FC Twente all ended in 2-1. The Tukkers won twice and the last meeting in Alkmaar was a prey for AZ. Sem Steijn opened the score for FC Twente, after which Ruben van Bommel and Vangelis Pavlidis secured the victory for the Alkmaarders.
In the women’s premier league, Telstar lost 4-1 to number three FC Utrecht. That score was already on the scoreboard at halftime. Telstar’s only goal was scored by Japan’s Chinatsu Kira. Telstar enters the winter break with six points from eleven games. AZ and Ajax will be in action tomorrow.
