Past: sc Heerenveen – AZ 3-1
2.30 pm: Telstar – FC Utrecht
It’s over in the Abe Lenstra Stadium. AZ goes down against SC Heerenveen and loses 3-1. A new disappointment for the Alkmaarders after the defeat against PSV.
The match ends in just over four minutes in Heerenveen. Peer Koopmeiners has just been substituted for Dave Kwakman.
Good save from Jeroen Zoet on a shot by Luuk Brouwers in injury time. It’s not AZ afternoon.
Luuk Brouwers seems to decide the match. He hits a brilliant shot from distance and Heerenveen’s margin is two again.
AZ brings the tension back again. Wassim Bouziane removes his direct opponent well and enables Troy Parrott to score.
Maxence Rivera tries it from a distance. His long shot sails narrowly past the intersection. The audience in the stadium already counted him.
Heerenveen hits the aluminum again. This time the ball hits the post via Jeroen Zoet. A little later it has to save again. He keeps AZ going.
Maarten Martens makes a new substitution. Lequincio Zeefuik comes on for Maxim Dekker.
Dylan Vente can head in freely after a beautiful cross from Joris van Overeem. The striker heads hard towards the AZ goal, but Jeroen Zoet parries the header like a cat. The goalkeeper proved his worth several times today.
On the other hand, Kees Smit gets a shooting opportunity. His shot is blocked by a Heerenveen defender. First pinprick after AZ’s halftime. Mees de Wit then goes to the side for Mateo Chavez.
Kees Smit gets involved in a row with Luuk Brouwers. The AZ youngster seems to receive a yellow card from referee Allard Lindhout, but it is for Brouwers.
The second half in Heerenveen has started. Maarten Martens immediately makes a double substitution. Both wingers Ibrahim Sadiq and Weslley Patati leave. Matej Sin and Wassim Bouziane enter.
The first half is over in Heerenveen. Enough food for thought for AZ after the 2-0 deficit. See you soon!
Jacob Trenskow plants the ball on the crossbar after a wonderful action by Maxence Rivera, who passes several AZ players. AZ is really having a hard time right now.
Things are going fast now. Former AZ player Joris van Overeem, of all people, hits Heerenveen’s second. Big hit for the Alkmaarders just before half time.
AZ is increasingly coming into the match and taking over the initiative. Yet the Frisians are 1-0. Luuk Brouwers passes to Dylan Vente and he slides the ball in in front of an empty goal.
Elijah Dijkstra picks up the ball well and immediately gives a through ball to Troy Parrott. Unfortunately for AZ, he is not (yet) as sharp as in Ireland and his attempt through Bernt Klaverboer goes wide.
Moments later, a cross from Weslley Patati just misses Parrott’s head. AZ becomes slightly stronger in this phase.
Heerenveen comes out dangerous again. The AZ defense shoots, but is lucky that the ball goes past the goal via Mees de Wit. The people of Alkmaar do not seem awake yet.
A fireworks bomb goes off from the AZ supporters’ box. The crowd is startled for a moment, but the referee Allard Lindhout allows play to continue. The smoke also dissipates quickly.
Heerenveen gets an imposed chance twice. First Maas Willemsen hits hard and then the rebound is also dangerous. Jeroen Zoet is sharp in both cases and can save. The goalkeeper replaces the injured Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro.
A little later the danger comes again from the Frisians. A heel behind Dylan Vente’s standing leg just rolls past the post. Lucky for AZ.
