Zwickau: Suspect identified after the game was abandoned

The police identified the suspect after the beer shower against referee Nicolas Winter, which led to the game being abandoned in the third division game between FSV Zwickau and Rot-Weiss Essen.

According to the Saxony police, the man, who, according to FSV board spokesman Frank Fischer, is said to be a sponsor of the club, is now being investigated for bodily harm. The club also announced consequences against the man.

In a scuffle that followed the situation, an Essen player was also attacked, the police said. Here, too, the police identified the suspect and filed a complaint for bodily harm.

Referee colleagues support Winter

The game was stopped at half-time on Sunday when the score was 1-1. Referee Winter was thrown in the face by a spectator as he walked into the dressing room. Winter didn’t come out of the dressing room after the half-time break and stopped the game.

Bundesliga referee Patrick Ittrich said there was no alternative to the demolition, and former referee Thorsten Kinhöfer also described it as “completely right” that the game was not restarted. “It’s an act of violence against the referee team. There can be no two opinions. The game is also 100 percent rated for food,” he told the “Bild”.
