Germany’s tennis star Alexander Zverev left the first stop after Melbourne’s bitter defeat in the quarterfinals. The top seeded 27-year-old lost to the clay court tournament in Buenos Aires in difficult weather conditions local hero Francisco Cerúndolo 6: 3, 3: 6, 2: 6. Rain and wind had interrupted the game day in Buenos Aires several times and the final duel of the day had only been delayed. With the clay court tournament at the start of the Golden Swing, Zverev was switched to sand very early in the final of the world ranking Jannik Sinner in the final of the Australian Open – also with regard to the French Open (May 25th to June 8th). There it should finally work with a triumph at one of the four most important tournaments.
With the 500 tournament in Brazil, Zverev wants to get further match practice on his favorite covering. In March, however, for the time being, the Masters in Miami and Indian Wells will go back to the hard court before the European sand season starts.
