Zonta van den Goorbergh will also join RW Racing GP next season
6:14 p.m.: Zonta van den Goorbergh will also compete in Moto2 next season for team RW Racing GP. The 19-year-old Brabander has extended his contract with the Dutch GP team for a fifth season.
Van den Goorbergh made his debut with the team in 2022 at the age of 16 and is in his fourth season. Next season, both Van den Goorbergh and the RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP have the objective of competing with the fastest riders in Moto2 every weekend, the team reports. The Japanese Ayumu Sasaki will again be the Dutchman’s teammate in 2026.
“I am very happy that I can continue to work with RW Racing GP in 2026,” Van den Goorbergh said via the team. “This season has not turned out to be what we had hoped for, but there are currently many changes in and around the team and that gives me a good feeling. I will do everything I can to be there in 2026 and commit myself 100 percent to achieving good results.”
Clumsy own goal helps Ajax women past PSV and take the lead in the Eredivisie
4:36 pm: The women of Ajax defeated PSV in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. The match seemed to end in a draw, until defender Myrthe Kemper-Moorrees of the visitors from Eindhoven clumsily put the ball into his own goal in injury time: 2-1.
Ajax is the new leader in the Eredivisie, with a three-point lead over FC Twente, which has played one game less. PSV now has four points less than the leader from the capital.
Chimera Ripa gave PSV the lead after more than a minute in front of more than 8,000 spectators. The attacker, born in Amsterdam, scored on a pass from Renate Jansen. Riola Xhemaili failed to score PSV’s second goal in the fourth minute. She came across goalkeeper Regina van Eijk.
Ajax got into the match better after the opening phase. Danique Tolhoek equalized just before half time. She came close to scoring a second goal in the seventieth minute. Kemper-Moorrees tried to control a cross with her chest in the sixth minute of injury time, but the ball went into the goal.
Marco Bezzecchi starts from pole in Portugal
4:15 p.m: Italian motorcycle racer Marco Bezzecchi has taken pole position at the Portuguese Grand Prix. He set the fastest time in MotoGP qualifying at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve circuit in Portimao (1.37.556). He was slightly faster than Spaniard Pedro Acosta. Frenchman Fabio Quartararo recorded the third fastest time.
Spanish motorcycle racer Alex Marquez will start from the second row of the grid on Sunday after a crash in qualifying. Marc Marquez secured his seventh world title in the premier class of motorsport at the end of September. He will no longer play this season due to a shoulder injury. A sprint race is scheduled for Saturday afternoon for the MotoGP riders.
Collin Veijer took third place in Moto2 in the qualifying for the Portuguese Grand Prix. The 20-year-old Staphorster was only slower on the KTM than the Brazilian Diogo Moreira and the British Jake Dixon. This puts him on the front row of the grid on Sunday. Veijer’s best performance in Moto2 races this season is fifth place.
Zonta van den Goorbergh qualified thirteenth.
NBA wants to launch European basketball competition in two years
10:46 am: The North American basketball league NBA wants to start its own league in Europe. According to NBA Europe general manager George Aivazoglou, this should start in October 2027.
The NBA-backed league could pose a threat to the Euroleague, which is now considered the second-best basketball league in the world.
During a meeting in Milan, Aivazoglou did not comment on whether teams would be allowed to participate in both competitions. He presented twelve host cities: Berlin, Munich, Lyon, Paris, Athens, London, Manchester, Milan, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid and Istanbul.
In addition to twelve regular participants, four other teams would be allowed to compete in the NBA’s European competition every year.
Figure riding pair Danilova and Tsiba miss out on a ticket for the Games
10.27 am: The Dutch figure skating pair Daria Danilova and Michel Tsiba have failed to secure a ticket for the Olympic Games in Milan. The duo achieved a score of 155.20 points during the Osaka Grand Prix, falling far short of the requirement of NOC*NSF, the Dutch sports association that has set the limit for participation at 173.89 points.
Danilova and Tsiba missed the World Cup in Boston. They were then given two chances by NOC*NSF to meet the limit. The attempt in Georgia last month does not count because Tsiba was struggling with a shoulder injury. After the Osaka Grand Prix, the Dutch figure riding couple can still participate in the Golden Spin competition that will be held in Zagreb on December 5 and 6.
