Oleksandr Zinchenko is leaving Arsenal and the Premier League and returning to the Netherlands. One day before deadline day, Ajax Amsterdam announced the transfer of the 29-year-old left-back. The Gunners had previously announced that the Ukrainian’s loan to Nottingham Forest would be canceled. Zinchenko signed with the Dutch record champions until the end of the season and reportedly costs a fee of 1.5 million euros.
Zinchenko was already active in the Eredivisie in 2016/17 when he played on loan at PSV Eindhoven. He is leaving Arsenal, which spent 35 million euros on him in 2022, after 91 games. “With Oleksandr we are bringing in an experienced player who will immediately give us a quality boost in the fight for the Champions League. As a left-back, he is tactically strong, brings defensive stability and fits our style of play perfectly. Oleksandr has proven in the Premier League that, in addition to his defensive qualities, he can also play an important role in building up and breaking through lines. We are therefore very pleased that he will strengthen our selection at least until the summer,” said football director Marijn Beuker.
Zinchenko has only played ten games so far this season, partly due to a groin injury. At Ajax, currently fourth in the table, he is the third winter signing and is now the fourth most valuable professional in the squad with a market value of 15 million euros.
