Because of the storm “Zeynep”, the Berlin fire brigade again declared a state of emergency on Friday evening.
According to a spokesman, there have been 68 missions since 8 p.m. “Many things that are not secured are now flying around, for example at construction sites,” it said.
In this case, a state of emergency means that so many alarm calls are received that they can no longer be processed one after the other – as is usually the case – and other priorities are set. This happens more often.
The fire brigade in the capital had already declared a state of emergency on Thursday night and then on Thursday morning. According to this, there were more than 1,360 weather-related operations within 24 hours.
The fire brigades in Brandenburg were also in constant use. “We are driving more missions,” said a spokesman for the Northeast regional control center on Friday evening around 8:30 p.m. Because of “Zeynep” there are the first fallen trees and also traffic accidents in the districts of Barnim, Oberhavel and Uckermark.
The Brandenburg regional control center, which is responsible for the Potsdam-Mittelmark and Teltow-Fläming districts and the city of Brandenburg/Havel, also recorded significantly more operations. In the Ostprignitz-Ruppin and Havelland districts, the firefighters had to take care of fallen trees and broken branches, according to the Northwest regional control center.
The people of Berlin and Brandenburg have to prepare for a stormy night. The German Weather Service has issued a severe weather warning for the region for the period from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. because of the hurricane “Zeynep”.
