KIEV (dpa-AFX) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj has congratulated the previous Hungarian opposition leader Peter Magyar on his “overwhelming victory” in the parliamentary election. It is important that a constructive approach prevails, Zelenskyj wrote late in the evening on Platform X. Ukraine has always strived for good neighborly relations with all European states and is ready to deepen its cooperation with Hungary.
Zelensky further wrote that Kiev was ready for joint constructive work for the benefit of both nations. Europe and all European nations must be strengthened; millions of Europeans want cooperation and stability.
Recently, relations between Hungary and Ukraine have been extremely tense. The now voted-out Prime Minister Viktor Orban recently blocked a 90 billion EU loan for Ukraine. He also accused Kiev of preventing the Druzhba oil pipeline from resuming operations for political reasons.
For months, Orban fought for votes mainly by criticizing Ukraine and fear-mongering about Hungary’s possible involvement in the war in the neighboring country./vee/DP/zb
