PARIS (dpa-AFX) – Despite progress in talks about peace for Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyj says there are still unresolved points. Territorial issues have not been 100 percent resolved, Zelensky said after a meeting of Ukraine supporters in Paris. Ukrainian negotiators should therefore stay on site and continue the talks.
Legally binding security guarantees
After the meeting of the so-called coalition of the willing, there will be more clarity as to which country can make which contribution, said Zelensky. The coalition still has to work on the security guarantees. The commitments should be legally binding. He thanked the US for its willingness to participate in monitoring a ceasefire. Deterring Russia from further aggression is an important part of protecting Ukraine.
The dispute over territory is about whether Ukraine – as demanded by Moscow – completely withdraws its troops from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in the east. The USA is urging Kiev to do this because otherwise peace with Russia cannot be achieved. Ukraine rejects this.
