BRUSSELS (dpa-AFX) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj has complained about a lack of missiles for several air defense systems. “There are some systems for which some types of missiles no longer exist,” Zelensky said at a press conference in Brussels. He had spoken to the Europeans about the fact that attacks were occurring every day and that the missiles had to be shot down. “Either the partners give licenses or rockets or help with money and we buy (the rockets) ourselves,” said the head of state. He doesn’t see any other way out.
He did not want to name specific anti-aircraft systems, but he had previously said during his appearance in the EU Council: “We need missiles for Patriot systems.” According to Kiev, Kiev uses US-made Patriot systems to intercept Russian ballistic missiles. Other systems such as the German Iris-T or the French-Italian SAMP/T system are said to be unable to do this. Most recently, Russian drone and missile attacks caused a power outage lasting several days in the Odessa region of southern Ukraine.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion with Western help for almost four years./ast/DP/stw
