Zelensky: 23,000 Russian soldiers killed

Since the Russian invasion began, 23,000 Russian soldiers have been killed in Ukraine, according to Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky. In addition, more than 1,000 Russian tanks and nearly 2,500 other military vehicles were destroyed, Zelensky said during a speech on Saturday night.

It is difficult to estimate how high the losses actually are. Moscow has previously admitted that more than 1,000 Russians have been killed since the war started on February 24. The country estimates the number of killed Ukrainian fighters at more than 23,000.

Zelensky said he expected Russia to mobilize “extra troops” for attacks in eastern Ukraine. He appealed to the Russian army during his speech. “Any Russian soldier can still save his life. It is better for you to survive in Russia than to die in our country.”
