Zayn Malik is in the hospital. The pop star shared the news on his Instagram Stories with a photo of himself in a hospital bed and a hospital gown – coupled with a personal message to his fans:
“Thank you all for your love and support, now and always – it’s been a long week and I’m still unexpectedly recovering,” he wrote. “It breaks my heart that I won’t be able to see you this week. Without you I wouldn’t be where I am today and I’m so grateful for your understanding,” Malik added.
He also thanked the “incredible hospital staff,” including “doctors, nurses, cardiologists, management, administration.” He did not give the reason for his hospital stay or the expected duration.
Album release despite hospital
Malik’s representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment from ROLLING STONE.
The health update fell on the same day Malik released his fifth solo album Konnakol. Several appearances in record stores along the East Coast of the USA were planned. After announcing his hospitalization, his official fan account confirmed that all of these appointments have been canceled.
Earlier this week, Malik had already postponed a fan event that was scheduled for April 13th at the London Circuit in Kingston. According to Banquet Records’ website, the event was scheduled to include a Q&A with the musician as well as “exclusive footage.” Malik addressed his fans via Banquet Records: “I’m really sorry, but unfortunately I’m sick and won’t be making it to the UK this week as planned,” he wrote. The date has been postponed to May 21st.
The British singer became internationally known in 2010 as a member of the casting band One Direction, which is one of the most successful pop acts of the 2010s. In 2015, Malik left the group to start a solo career and immediately achieved great success with his debut album “Mind of Mine” and the single “Pillowtalk”. Musically, he moves between pop, R&B and soul and is considered one of the most independent artists to emerge from the boy band cosmos.
