At the end of 2021, Tom accidentally encounters a message about Flenstrops newest project: the construction of an organ for a church in Osnabrück. For 1.3 million euros, the Zaanse company would make a new instrument, entirely in the old style. His journalistic instinct immediately catches on – he wants to record this.

Saw from wood to blowjob

During a tour of the company a flame awakens at Tom: this could well be a great project, he thinks. “The director led me around and showed me from A to Z how to build an organ.” That process fascinates him and he agrees with the director to film.

No sooner said than done: in seventeen film moments he records how the organ takes shape step by step: from sawing the right wood to the precision work of the pipe maker.

Tom is also present at the installation of the large organ; The ten -meter -high work must be carefully hoisted upstairs in the St. Johannkerk of Osnabrück and then voted.

The big unveiling

The entire process takes around three years. “In the beginning a lot was prepared,” says Tom. “But suddenly it went very quickly. In the summer of 2024, I hadn’t visited for a few months, the organ already came up. Then considerable steps were taken,” says Tom enthusiastically.

The best thing about this big project? “The unveiling of the organ in Osnabrück. The entire church community lives with that. Many have also contributed financially to the organ.”

Tom clearly shows in the documentary that he shares the fascination for organs with the organ makers and stakeholders. “I have no trouble with that,” he says. “It is a journalistic project, but it is also wonder and Zaans pride.”
