YouTube Premium Family: Streaming service is getting more expensive

In the USA and Great Britain, for example, the prices for a family subscription to YouTube Premium have risen – sometimes significantly. What does this mean for users in Germany?

After users are confronted with price increases in many areas, Google is now also raising the prices for its YouTube premium subscription. The family tariff is primarily affected. In some countries, however, the price for the normal individual subscription is also increasing. So far, countries such as the USA, Canada, Great Britain and Turkey have been affected. Are prices also rising in Germany?

YouTube Premium will be 10 to 300 percent more expensive

Google is currently informing its subscribers in numerous countries about a price increase. As a result, the prices for new customers will increase immediately, for existing customers from November 21, 2022.

In the US, the family subscription to YouTube Premium will cost $22.99 instead of $17.99. The same prices apply to Canada, an increase of approximately 30 percent. In the UK, prices will rise 11 percent from £17.99 to £19.99.

YouTube’s price increases are more pronounced in Argentina and Turkey. In the South American country, the changes affect all tariffs of the family subscription; the individual subscription will cost 389 and the large subscription 690 Argentinian pesos instead of the previous 119 and 179 Argentinian pesos. Converted, these are enormous jumps of 229 and 290 percent. In Turkey, 29.99 instead of 16.99 Turkish lire will be due for the family subscription, which corresponds to a price increase of 77 percent.

Will the price increase soon also come to Germany?

So far, at least officially, nothing is known about this. In the past, however, Google has repeatedly proceeded in such a way that the prices were only adjusted in other large markets such as the USA. Other countries then followed. The fact that there are already so many suggests that the price increase will soon also affect users in this country. An increase of around 30 percent in the family subscription to YouTube Premium can then probably also be expected.

If the YouTube premium prices also rise here, the usual 30-day lead time for existing customers will also apply, as in the other countries.
