As the last German team

©IMAGO

Eintracht Frankfurt was the last German representative in the Youth League to have to give up. The SGE talents narrowly lost their round of 16 duel with Sporting Lisbon 0-1 (0-1) on Tuesday afternoon at the Maxworx Sportpark in Dreieich.

Particularly bitter: An own goal from Amil Siljevic was decisive. After a cross, the keeper, who usually parried well, collided with central defender Nicolas Peter while defending with his feet and unfortunately steered the ball into his own goal. Shortly before the end, defensive talent Derek Boakye Osei (83′) also saw a yellow-red card.

The Frankfurt team made it to the round of 16 for the first time in their second participation in the Youth League. Sporting will now continue in the quarter-finals away against a former winner of the competition: Real Madrid or Chelsea. The duel takes place on March 17th or 18th.
