The former prodigy Youssoufa Moukoko has not yet given up hope of a great career. Will the reunion with BVB be a key experience?

The former child prodigy Youssoufa Moukoko has not given up hope of a great football career. Shortly before his club FC Copenhagen’s Champions League duel against Borussia Dortmund (Tuesday, 9 p.m./DAZN), Moukoko analyzed his current situation in an interview with “kicker”. The youngest Bundesliga player in history is currently in a slump in form, but is convinced: “I’ll get out of there again, I know it.”

In the current season, the striker has scored four goals in 20 competitive games – a rate that, in his own opinion, does not meet his standards. “I am my biggest critic. I know that this is not my level,” said Moukoko and added: “I know that I will help this team.”

One reason for the mixed results was, among other things, the long training gap with which he came to Copenhagen. “Everyone probably expected me to go to Denmark and destroy the league, but I almost never played 90 minutes for two years. Then suddenly playing every three days is a shame.”

The previous loan station at OGC Nice was particularly important for him, where he gained important personal experience. “Many people won’t understand it when I say this, but Nice was the best thing that could have happened to me,” he said looking back.

In France he learned to take responsibility for himself and not rush to look for someone to blame. “In Dortmund it was always the coach’s fault when I didn’t play,” said Moukoko. “In Nice I learned to be patient, to control my emotions and not to point fingers at other people,” the player continued.

Moukoko is under observation with Copenhagen this season in the Superliga and internationally. The game against his former club Borussia Dortmund could be a special moment for him.
