We wanted to know from you which act should be heard from again. Here are the survey results.
Whether physically under the Christmas tree or simply announcing a hotly anticipated album, music is always a great gift idea. In the music year 2023 we were richly gifted with new music, but of course there is more. That’s why we’re here for you Instagram asked who hasn’t heard anything from them in far too long and who you’re longing for new records from. Although we can’t make your wishes come true with a flick of the wrist, as we all know, hope dies last. Maybe one or other artist will even hear your wish this way?! Here comes your wish list for the music year 2024.
You are hoping for new music from these artists:
1. The Cure
The last sign of life in the form of an album was the reissue of their 1993 live album SHOW. An album with new material has already been announced for 2022, but no date has yet been announced. SONGS OF A LOST WORLD is said to have been finished a long time ago and would therefore be the band’s 14th studio album.
2. Power plant
Actually, the group from Düsseldorf has already done enough pioneering work in electropop and krautrock. But that’s probably why a new Kraftwerk album would be particularly exciting. However, Ralf Hütter would have to answer without Florian Schneider what a mixture of man and machine sounds like in the age of ChatGPT and DALL-E. The founding member died in 2020.
3. Pearl Jam
There’s good news for Pearl Jam fans, just in time for Christmas: drummer Matt Cameron recently hinted at a new album and tour for 2024. Until then, you can sweeten your time with GIVE AWAY, the live album released in April 2023.
4. Frank Ocean
The R’n’B singer has long been known for making his listeners wait. After all, his current release, the album BLONDE, was seven years ago. Although his appearance at the Coachella Festival 2023 disappointed many fans, there was also good news: a new work is on the way, just not right away. The song snippet on Frank Ocean’s Instagram profile that appeared in November also hints at something new.
5. Men’s Magazine
There is a similarly long radio silence with the indie band Herrenmagazin. The Hamburg-based company announced in 2016 that it wanted to take a break from the project for an indefinite period of time. However, the group, consisting of Deniz Jaspersen, König Wilhelmsburg, Paul Konopacka and Rasmus Engler, was back on stage together at the Orange Blossom Special Festival 2023. However, it is unclear what will emerge from this discreetly announced reunion.
6. LCD sound system
James Murphy’s band literally melts genre boundaries. Regardless of whether it’s disco, punk or pop – you’ll never be bored with LCD Soundsystem. In 2022, Murphy provided the soundtrack to Noah Baumbach’s film “Weisses Rauschen” with “New Body Rhumba”, but otherwise he’s waiting for something new…
7. Tools
Compared to the 13 year wait between 10,000 DAYS (2006) and their current album FEAR INOCULUM (2019), Tool are still very well in time. At the moment the band has decided on an extended tour life.
8. Rage Against the Machine
Since guitarist Tom Morello’s cryptic statements about the alternative dates of the world tour planned for 2022, the band’s future has been uncertain. Perhaps their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year will spur new music from the group. RATM will definitely find reasons to continue to be angry.
