Transport and Communications Agency Traficom Cyber Security Center warn Digital skimming by cyber criminals, which means stealing your online store customers’ payment card information.
“This is a significant threat that can go unnoticed for long periods of time and cause significant financial and reputation damage to websites and their customers,” says the Cyber Security Center.
This is how everything happens
Skimming is done by floating harmful code into the e -commerce payment system. When the user enters, for example, a debit card number and a security code to the page, captures the disadvantage of the information entered and transmits it to the criminals.
The method is also called the Magecart attack. It dates back to the Magento online store, the first of the open source e-commerce platform for similar attacks. Nowadays, attacks are also directed to online stores built on other platforms.
From the point of view of the victim of digital skimming, nothing special seems to have happened. When the payment goes through normally and the goods are delivered on time, the crime may be completely overlooked until the card is made unknown.

For example, the e-commerce administrator may detect the harmful code on the platform that the payment information is directed to an unknown domain, the site code contains unknown or obfused JavaScript, the website has customized or new unknown HTTP requests.
However, the crime may not be revealed only when customers in the company’s online store report after their purchases of card theft.
