Young man remains in jail for murder without motive in Tielt
Jarod D. stabbed the victim to death, but his motive remains unclear.
The emergency services were called on Saturday, March 6, 2021 around 10.50 pm for a stabbing on the public road in the center of Tielt. Leander Quintyn (32) was found seriously injured moments later in the Felix D’Hoopstraat. The 30-year-old was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries. The Bruges public prosecutor requested an investigating judge for murder, but initially no suspects could be arrested.
The investigation had a breakthrough when a suspect was arrested on April 26, 2021. Jarod D. was arraigned the next day and detained by the investigating judge. The young man confessed to the investigators, but it remains unclear why Leander Quintyn was killed. The victim and the perpetrator did not know each other at all. According to the defense, nothing had been said at the time of the facts.
The morality investigation is now almost complete. This would show that family and friends of the suspect also do not understand what possessed him that evening. For the time being, it is still waiting for the perhaps crucial findings of the court psychiatrists.
