The world of football is shaken by the sudden death of a 21-year-old footballer: Victor Udoh. The young Nigerian player was in Nigeria for the holidays, in Abuja, a place close to the area where he grew up as a child, namely Madalla. His career began right here, atHypebuzzteam from the Nigerian capital. After showing off on the African continent, the Royal Antwerp decided to focus on him, bringing him to Europe. At just 19 years old, Udoh received the call to the first team endorsed by coach Mark van Bommel and began to enter the elite ranks, always struggling to find space and continuity. In 2024-25 the transfer to the Premier League comes as a surprise: he is purchased by the Southamptonwhich made him sign a three-year contract. No appearances in the English top flight, but some with the U21s. The last club before his death was the Dinamo Ceské Budejovicein the Czech championship.

The news of the 21-year-old’s passing came from his former club, Royal Antwerp, who announced the incident on social media: “With great dismay, the RAFC has taken note of the death of former player Victor Udoh (21). Victor moved to Bosuil in the 2023/2024 season, where in his first year with the Young Reds he managed to score twelve goals in 21 games. That season he also made his official debut with the first team in the home match against Charleroi. In total, Victor appeared on the pitch 28 times officially for The Great Old and provided two assists, before joining Southampton. Our thoughts are with Victor’s family, friends and loved ones. We wish them much strength, support and warmth during this particularly difficult period. Rest in peace, Victor“.

However, the reasons behind Victor Udoh’s death remain unknown. His death is shrouded in a veil of mystery and local newspapers and tabloid Nigerians talk about a possibility poisoning food. In fact, the footballer was out with some friends during the previous evening. The next morning, however, the lifeless body was found. The case is still waiting to be definitively resolved and the local authorities are still working on this thorny event.
