The young designer of the year has been chosen Juha Vehmaanperä. In her winning work, Vehmaanperä combines crocheting techniques and industrial surplus leather. The work takes a stand on the global climate crisis.

The Young Designer of the Year competition is considered Finland’s longest-running and most prestigious clothing design competition. This year, the competition was organized for the 28th time.

The competition is intended for clothing design students. Juha Vehmaanperä’s background is at Aalto University, where he studied in the fashion master’s program.

The 2022 competition entries have been evaluated by a jury made up of influencers in the fashion industry, which included, among others, a journalist and the chairman of the jury Jaakko Selin and fashion artist Ritva Falla.
