At a very well-filled Kalverhoek sports park in Wijdewormer, Jong AZ took three points tonight in the first competition match of the new season. The Alkmaar promises were 3-1 too strong for MVV Maastricht.
The game was less than five minutes away when Jong AZ was already in the lead. Zico Buurmeester hurled the ball from a corner to the head of Maxim Dekker, who hit the target. For the 18-year-old defender it was his first goal in professional football.
Ten minutes later it was already level. Goalkeeper Sem Westerveld choked on a pass from left back Misha Engel, which resulted in the Maastricht players coming up with a fortune at 1-1.

Goal scorer Dekker again became dangerous from a corner in the 20th minute, but this time shot the ball over. The well-playing Jong AZ became dangerous again shortly before half-time. MVV keeper Romain Matthys saved on Robin Lathouwers’ shot.
Even after the break, the team of trainer Maarten Martens shot out of the starting blocks. Mexx Meerdink scored a cross from Soulyman Allouch into the MVV goal. Shortly afterwards, Allouch offered Lewis Schouten a nice opportunity, but his effort was turned by Matthys.
MVV more dangerous
It took until the 61st minute before MVV became really dangerous for the first time. Former Telstar’s Orhan Dzepar header was the first ball between the posts, but Westerveld made the save. It was the go-ahead for MVV to look for the equalizer even more emphatically. A nice shot by captain Matteo Waem was taken off the line and the Limburgers then became dangerous a number of times.
But Allouch ensured the liberation of Jong AZ in the 82nd minute. With a great shot with the right leg in the corner, he helped his team to the 3-1. It was also for Allouch, in his 39th game, his first goal in professional football.
