Young asylum seekers get shelter outside Ter Apel

At least 150 minor asylum seekers are taken from Ter Apel to reception centers elsewhere in the country. This is reported by Stichting Nidos, an organization that is committed to young refugees and has searched the locations. The message is confirmed by the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA).

The first fifty young people will be taken to locations in the south of the Netherlands on Monday. They can stay there for at least eight weeks. Later next week, at least a hundred more children, and maybe more, will go to other shelters. Nidos calls on municipalities to make a total of 350 homes available to the foundation, so that young people can be accommodated there. According to the organization, “the safety for the group of unaccompanied minors (UAMs) is no longer guaranteed in Ter Apel”.

Earlier this week, the municipality of Amersfoort reported that shelter had been arranged for forty underage asylum seekers in a hotel. They are accompanied by Nidos. That shelter is separate from the deal that has now been closed.
