Yesterday, on Canale 5 the film about the Beatles: plot, ending and cast

Sttanight at 21.45 on Channel 5 there is Yesterday. Directed by Danny Boyle, the film is a real tribute to the Beatlesespecially to their music and the figure of John Lennon. The main character is Jack Malikaspiring songwriter, played by Himesh Patelin his film debut.

Yesterdaythe plot of the movie

Jack Malik lives in Lowestoft, near Norwich. He dreams of becoming a singer, but has not yet garnered much acclaim. There is support for it childhood friend and manager Ellie Appleton (Lily James). One night, during a blackout, is hit by a bus. When it wakes up, it sings Yesterday And to his amazement he discovers that the friends have never heard of the Beatles.

The television promotion begins and, following a guest appearance, he is contacted by Ed Sheeran to open his concert in Moscow. Ellie also works as a teacher and cannot leave school, so his friend Rocky (Joel Fry) accompanies him to Russia. Once in Moscow, after the concert Ed Sheeran challenges Jack to determine who is the better songwriter of the two. Malik gets smart and sings The long and winding roadbeating Sheeran. The performance intrigues Debra Hammer (Kate McKinnon), Sheeran’s agent, who invites him to Los Angeles to discuss his music career.

The troubled love between Jack and Ellie

However he manages to convince them to do the discus release concert on the roof of the Pier Hotel. Something unexpected happens after the performance. Two Beatles fans stop him and thank him for reinterpreting the band’s songspreventing the memory from being swept away forever. The boys also provide him with John Lennon’s address. Yes, because having never formed the Beatles, he’s still alive.

Meeting John Lennon and the ending of Yesterday

So Jack Malik meets John Lennon, asks him if he was successful and he replies yes, because he lived his life with the woman he loved. She advises him to always be honest with those he loves, not to hide what he feels, but to confess his feelings. It’s the only way to lead a happy life. Shaken by Lennon’s words, Jack decides to end the new life of success. In addition to the awareness of having built everything on lies, over time he may regret letting Ellie, the true love of his life, slip away.

He comes to a decision and hatches a plan that subverts everything. Closes the Ed Sheeran concert at Wembley Stadium. After singing All you need is lovecome clean. He confesses to the audience that he is not the author of the songs and also that he is in love with Ellie. Furthermore, he decides that Beatles songs should be free for everyone. Ed Sheeran actor in film and TV
