Sonny Boy: from book to film and theater
You may already know the story of Sonny Boy. The book was published almost twenty years ago and in 2011 you saw the film adaptation in the cinema. A theater tour of the story is even planned soon. It is not without reason that it is a book on the reading list for high school students.
In case you missed it: Sonny Boy is about a young Surinamese student who comes to live with a woman and her family in The Hague. The story takes place in the 1930s. When the woman becomes pregnant by the student, they face discrimination and poverty, not to mention the outbreak of World War II.
