Russian pole vaulting legend Yelena Isinbayeva has found himself in the middle of an uproar in his home country. The ex-athlete who moved to Tenerife decided to cut ties with Russia and focus on his work at the International Olympic Committee.

Isinbayeva, who was appointed a major in the Russian army, used to be strongly involved in her country’s politics and one Vladimir Putin of the most famous supporters. Now his reputation has taken a hit, and there seems to be no going back.

Recently, the stadium named in honor of Isinbayeva in Dagestan got its old name back after six years. On the same day after the name change, Isinbayeva published Instagram– in the stories, the answer to the criticism he received.

The answer given in the form of a poem is open to interpretation. The free translation goes roughly like this:

– When they throw stones at you, keep your chin up proudly. Because you know the truth in your heart. There is not an iota of falsehood in your words. When they mock you and laugh behind your back, remember to pray for love and know that the angels are with you, Isinbayeva wrote, according to Forpost-Sevastopol.ru.

– When they hit you with betrayal, forgive everyone. But don’t forget, their grief is not yours. Be fucking better than that.

– Keep your offense simple. Let them strike when you least expect it. Remember fate sees everything. Offenders shut up.

Isinbajeva is a member of the IOC’s athlete committee. The Russian position in the reformed committee shrank from six to two. The other is the president of the Russian Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpishchev.

The IOC has not yet decided whether Russian athletes will be allowed to compete in next summer’s Olympics. The decision is expected to come during the fall.
