The personal assistant of Matthew Perry, who died in 2023, was sentenced on Wednesday to three years and five months in prison. He must also pay a fine of $10,000, American media report.

60-year-old Kenneth Iwamasa was the one who injected Perry with the drug ketamine. He confessed in August 2024. In handing down the sentence in a Los Angeles courtroom, the judge pointed to the fact that Iwamasa knew about Perry’s years-long battle with addiction and that he had withheld evidence.

Iwamasa addressed the actor’s family during the hearing and said that he will regret it ‘forever’. “I will take this to my grave,” he said. “I hope I will be a cautionary example for someone in my position to make better choices.”

The ruling puts an end to a years-long legal battle surrounding the actor’s death. A total of five people have been convicted. The highest penalty was for the ketamine supplier. Last month she was given a fifteen-year prison sentence.

Perry was found dead in his Los Angeles home in 2023. According to research, he died from ‘the acute effects of ketamine’. The actor was best known for his role as Chandler Bing in the sitcom Friends.
