Xiaomi Redmi Note 11: smartphones in comparison

Xiaomi has added new models to its popular Redmi Note series. The devices offer really good features for little money. TECHBOOK presents the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro (5G), Note 11 and Note 11S.

The current mid-range smartphones have very attractive prices. Manufacturers are increasingly offering customers sophisticated technology that can certainly compete with more expensive devices. Xiaomi is positioning itself in this segment with its Redmi Note series, and the manufacturer has now expanded it with four new models. TECHBOOK has compared them and reveals which smartphone is best for whom.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro and Pro 5G: the top of the range models

The new generation of the Redmi Note series is led by the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro and Note 11 Pro 5G. At 6.67 inches, they are not only the largest of the four new smartphones, they also offer highlights such as a very bright AMOLED display with 120 Hz and particularly fast charging technology. Apart from the color selection, both models do not differ visually. They have identical dimensions and the same weight. Due to the 5G support, this model comes with a different processor.

The Mediatek Helio G96 is used in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro, which offers some advantages for gamers. These include the low latency between GPU and screen as well as intelligent resource management. The octa-core chip consists of two powerful Cortex-A76 cores with up to 2.05 GHz and six energy-saving Cortex-A55 cores with up to 2 GHz. The performance is therefore in the upper midfield. However, the chip only has a 4G modem, so it is not suitable for use in 5G networks.

The Snapdragon 695 in the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is different, which has only been on the market since October 2021 and comes with a 5G modem. The structure with twoCortex-A78 cores with up to 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores with up to 1.7 GHz is very similar to that of the Mediatek chip. However, the peak performance should be a bit better due to the slightly higher clock rate.

5G smartphone with fewer camera sensors

There are not only differences in the processor, but also in the camera. Oddly enough, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is the only one of the four models that has a triple instead of a quad camera. Xiaomi saved here with the depth sensor. In the end, this shouldn’t matter much, but this point could be decisive for photo enthusiasts who like to work with effects such as bokeh.

At least the main sensor is generous. The sensor takes photos with 108 megapixels, but calculates them down to 12 MP using 9-in-1 pixel binning. This improves dynamic range and photo quality in difficult lighting conditions.

The other points such as memory equipment, connections and the capacity of the battery are otherwise the same for both smartphones. The 5000 mAh battery can be charged very quickly thanks to 67 watt charging technology. It is also pleasing that Xiaomi includes a suitable 67-watt power adapter.

The Redmi Note 11 and Note 11S

At 6.43 inches, the Redmi Note 11 and Note 11S from Xiaomi are slightly smaller than the Pro models described above. Like these, they hardly differ from each other visually and are also technically similar in some respects. They also have the same dimensions and weight, both have a 5000 mAh battery, which can only be charged with 33 instead of 67 watts, and they do not use 5G.

But there is also a difference that needs to be clearly mentioned. In terms of performance, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 is the weakest smartphone in the group. While the Redmi Note 11S has the same processor and storage configuration as well as the same camera as theRedmi Note 11 Pro brings, the manufacturer has thatRedmi Note 11 slightly weakened. Instead of 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM, there are only 4 GB to 6 GB. The processor is the Snapdragon 680, which falls short of the performance of the other two chips. The Redmi Note 11 also does without the 108-megapixel camera. Instead, the manufacturer relies on a model with 50 megapixels. The front camera only offers 13 instead of the usual 16 megapixels.

Unlike the two Pro models, the Redmi Note 11 and 11S only have 90 Hz displays. This difference should be particularly relevant for gamers.

MIUI 13 with new features

Xiaomi has not only introduced new smartphones, but is also introducing a new interface to match. The MIUI version 13 is based on Android 11 and brings some new functions.

Thanks to Liquid Storage, users should get a better overview of the stored data and be able to manage it more easily. According to Xiaomi, Liquid Storage reduces fragmentation and actively manages the stored data. This should ensure a read and write speed that is optimized by up to 60 percent. In addition, the manufacturer increases the efficiency of the main memory (RAM) with Atomized Memory. The feature analyzes how apps use memory and splits the RAM
Usage processes of an individual app into important and unimportant tasks.

In addition to these adjustments made in the background, there are also visible new features with MIUI 13. This includes the newly introduced sidebar, which offers quick access to frequently used apps in floating windows. MIUI 13 is already available on the current Redmi Note 11 series and will gradually be rolled out on other Xiaomi smartphones and the Pad 5.

Conclusion: Which model should you buy?

Which model of the Redmi Note 11 series is the right one naturally depends on the individual requirements of a smartphone. It’s easy for those who want to have a 5G device. Only the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G comes into question here. For gamers, on the other hand, the Pro model without 5G should be interesting, since the processor is better tuned for gaming and the device also has good memory equipment and a 120 Hz display. Photo enthusiasts are also better off here than with the 5G model thanks to the additional depth sensor.

A cheaper alternative to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro is the 11S. It’s a bit more compact, charges slower, and only has a 90Hz display, but otherwise comes with the same processor and camera. The Redmi Note 11, on the other hand, is suitable for bargain hunters who want solid performance but can do without the high-resolution camera sensor.
