Xiaomi 12, 12X and 12 Pro: The top smartphones in comparison

Xiaomi has presented its new top smartphones. The current generation includes three models – the Xiaomi 12X, the Xiaomi 12 and the 12 Pro. The latter in particular attracts attention due to the great camera equipment and the strong performance.

Xiaomi already presented the 12 series in its home country of China in December 2021. Now the upper-class smartphones are also coming to Germany. The manufacturer not only focuses on the camera, but also on the latest technology and a very fast charging experience. TECHBOOK has the details of the new top smartphones.

Three models belong to the new series, which – apart from the size – hardly differ from each other visually. The slim case with its rounded corners is available in a choice of dark grey, light blue or soft purple. The camera bezel on the back makes it appear as if each sensor is in its own organizer in a drawer, the optics are so orderly and linear. On the other hand, the display with its hole notch and the very narrow edges draws attention to itself.

Xiaomi 12X and Xiaomi 12 – what are the differences?

The Xiaomi 12X and the Xiaomi 12 have identical dimensions and almost the same weight. Both smartphones are technically very similar in some respects. They bring a 6.28-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels and a maximum brightness of 1100 nits. Both devices also support an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz at the top and are protected from scratches by Gorilla Glass Victus. The sampling rate of the display is up to 480 Hz, which enables very smooth and fast operation.

At first glance, Xiaomi makes no difference between the 12X and the 12 when it comes to the camera. The smartphones have a triple camera with a 50-megapixel wide-angle as the main sensor, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle and a telephoto macro with 5 megapixels. The camera can record videos in 8K. However, if you look at the details, the data sheet shows a slightly better equipment for the Xiaomi 12. Because this model supports, among other things, the recording of HDR10+ videos as well as modes such as “Ultra Night Video”, “Xiaomi ProFocus” (motion tracking, motion detection, eye tracking). ) and the “Portrait Night Mode”.

The Xiaomi 12X also shows minor differences in other points compared to the other models in the series. For example, it is not equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 like the two siblings, but with the Snapdragon 870. Both chips deliver a very high level of performance, but the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is generally a bit more powerful, which is partly due to the more up-to-date architecture.

Users of the Xiaomi 12X have to make compromises when it comes to the battery and the connections. Because the device does not support wireless charging, nor does it use WLAN 6E.

The top model Xiaomi 12 Pro

The top of the range is without question the Xiaomi 12 Pro. With its 6.73-inch display, it is also the largest model of the trio. Here, users are not only offered a QHD+ resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels, but also a higher maximum brightness of 1500 nits and automatic adjustment of the LTPO display from 1 to 120 Hz. As mentioned, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 works inside, one of the currently best processors in the mobile sector. A special cooling system and three heat-absorbing graphite plates keep the device cool even under heavy use, which should ensure consistently good performance. Xiaomi offers the 12 Pro with either 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage each. The manufacturer relies on LPDDR5 for the main memory, which works particularly quickly and efficiently with memory speeds of up to 6400 Mbit/s.

Outstanding in camera and battery

Compared to the other two models, the camera also stands out. Because here Xiaomi relies on three sensors with 50 megapixels – in wide angle, ultra wide angle and telephoto. The main sensor in the form of the Sony IMX707 not only works very quickly, it also captures a lot of light. With the help of the 4-in-1 pixel combination technology, the light sensitivity of the main camera is improved by 120 percent compared to the previous version (Xiaomi 11), according to the manufacturer. In addition, the specially developed AI algorithm is used, which is the basis for effects such as “Xiaomi ProFocus” or “AI film effects”. The AI should recognize objects and stage them optimally, movements are tracked and thus blurry or out-of-focus recordings are prevented.

Instead of a dual speaker, the Xiaomi 12 Pro has four speakers built into it – two tweeters and two woofers. In addition, the manufacturer relies on the best battery equipment of all models. Xiaomi itself describes the 12 Pro as the first smartphone with a single-cell 120-watt battery. With 4600 mAh, this not only offers 100 mAh more capacity than the 12X and 12. It also supports Xiaomi’s newly developed fast charging technology. With up to 120 watts, the battery can be fully charged in minutes. Wireless charging is also very fast thanks to 50-watt support. As with the Xiaomi 12, other devices can also be charged wirelessly with the 12 Pro thanks to reverse wireless charging with 10 watts.
