With Simons in the starting line-up, RB Leipzig could not break any pots in the first half. The roughly 2500 spectators saw the Italians take the lead after half an hour via Lazar Samardzic. At halftime, the entire Leipzig team was replaced and Simons left the field for Timo Werner.
The striker then enabled Lois Openda, also a substitute, to score. The Belgium international only needed 21 minutes to find the net on his unofficial debut. In the 83rd minute, Udinese made it 2-1 through Vivaldo Semedo.
Simons recently left PSV and returned to Paris Saint-German, who immediately loaned him back to RB Leipzig.
