First knee -up, now the thigh: Xaver Schlager remains loyal to the bad luck. It would be more important for RB Leipzig than ever.
RB Leipzig has to cope with another setback in the fight for the Champions League places. Midfielder Xaver Schlager has injured himself again and fails for several weeks. The 27-year-old suffered a muscle injury to the Austrian national team in the left thigh-and is therefore missing for the third time this season due to problems in the same leg.
According to club information, Schlager will “lack a few weeks”. Previously, he had already struggled with a cruciate ligament tear and later knee problems. RB sports director Marcel Schäfer emphasized: “The renewed injury hits us very hard, especially Xaver himself. He worked extremely intensely for his comeback and gave everything to be able to help us with his qualities in the end of the season.” However, according to the club information, the new setback does not mean a complete season.
Schäfer also explained why Schlager traveled to the national team even though he hadn’t played for weeks before. “He should get the last match fitness at the national team,” said the 40-year-old. “Of course, it is annoying that we have to report another injury after an international break.”
A week ago, Schlager against Serbia came to a 13-minute commitment. In the second leg of the playoffs in the Nations League, he was no longer used. Schlager is currently negotiating a contract extension with Leipzig. His current working paper expires in 2026, an expansion should take place according to club wish this summer.
The driver had failed with a cruciate ligament tear until mid -November. After four Bundesliga missions, Schlager suffered the next setback in preparation for the second half of the season. In the friendly against the Czech third division club Most, he got new problems on the joint after a blow.
