Xander van der Wulp, editor-in-chief of NOS Sport, gets a big blow from Today Inside guest Chris Woerts. “Well, that’s bullshit, that’s really not true,” he shouts in the talk show.

The NPO is protesting against budget cuts for the umpteenth time. They would prefer even more than the billion euros they are currently receiving. NOS Sport editor-in-chief Xander van der Wulp is also in the complaining camp. He complained on Tuesday evening in the talk show Pauw & De Wit, causing a lot of irritation among critics.

‘No way!’

Chris Woerts, the sports marketer known from Today Inside, is very pissed about it. “Xander van der Wulp, a crying story! The entire NPO is in panic, sad music on the radio. They say: ‘Our budget of Studio Sport, the sacred Studio Sport, is only 45 million.’ Well, that’s bullshit, that’s really not true,” he says in the talk show on SBS 6.

He continues: “They have always bought World Cup rights, European championships, skates. They always pay three times the market value and the money comes from separate investment pots at the NPO. They have simply given free money to Studio Sport, saying: ‘Go shopping!’”

Half story

The Football World Cup is a good example, says Chris. “The commercial value, what you can earn back, is 10 million, and the NOS pays between 18 and 20 million. Free money! Then Xander van der Wulp says: ‘Our budget is 45 million!’ Really half the story! In addition, all those reporters at Studio Sport are all permanent employees.”

He is referring to, for example, Frank Snoeks and Jeroen Grueter. “They do two matches per weekend, a summary is on average 6 minutes, so they work 12 minutes in a weekend. Just type the summary into the microphone and they are permanently employed! That’s not a full-time job, is it? What do you do from Monday to Friday?!”
