On the way to the 2027 World Cup, the DFB women continue against Austria. Christian Wück is looking for his ideal attack department.

National coach Christian Wück has named his squad for the German women’s national team’s two upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Austria. Only Selina Cerci and Cora Zicai return to the 23-man squad, top performer Klara Bühl has to take a further break due to her muscle and tendon injury. The national coach will also be without Bundesliga top scorer Vanessa Fudalla for the games on April 14th in Nuremberg (6:15 p.m.) and four days later in Ried (6:00 p.m.).

“We have a strong squad and are relying on the players with whom we started successfully in the World Cup qualification,” explained Wück in a statement from the German Football Association (DFB). Larissa Mühlhaus, who made her debut in the 5-0 win against Slovenia, is initially playing for the U23s again. “For Larissa Mühlhaus, as with other players, we decided to let her continue to gain match practice in the U23 national team.” She is on call.

This is the German squad:

“We are really looking forward to Nuremberg and the fantastic atmosphere that awaits us there. Our goal is to show an exciting game,” said Wück from Lower Franconia. “With the support of our fans behind us, we are firmly convinced that we can take the next important step on our way to the 2027 World Cup.”

Wolfsburg’s Zicai is back in the squad after missing training due to illness, as is her recently injured offensive colleague Cerci from TSG Hoffenheim. After the opening win against Slovenia and the 4-0 win in Norway, the DFB women lead the elimination group on the way to the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. Only the group winner qualifies directly for the next big tournament; the pointless Austrians are last.

Giovanna Hoffmann from RB Leipzig and Lena Oberdorf from FC Bayern (both torn cruciate ligaments) as well as Munich’s Klara Bühl and Alara are still missing with injuries. For Bibiane Schulze Solano from Athletic Bilbao and Wolfsburg’s Sophia Kleinherne, a nomination comes too early after a long forced break, according to the DFB. The experienced Kathrin Hendrich (Chicago Red Stars) is only on call.
