WRT confirms new entry Sean Gelael and second car

WRT, the reigning championship team in the LMP2 class of the World Endurance Championship (WEC), is increasing its line-up for the 2022 season from one to two cars.

The racing team from Belgium is fielding two Oreca-Gibson 07s for the new season, the second running under the mention of Realteam by WRT. The reason for this is a cooperation with Realteam Racing from Switzerland.

Sean Gelael has been confirmed as the first driver for the number 31 WRT-Oreca. The change of the LMP2 vice champion from Jota to WRT in 2021 is thus in the towel. “I hope I can help with that [WRT] wins the title again this year. The title is also my goal after losing so narrowly in the fight against WRT last year, “said Gelael.

And the first driver has also been determined for the second WRT-Oreca (starting number 41). It’s Rui Andrade from Angola. He joins WRT from G-Drive. In the 2021 season, his rookie season in the LMP2 car, he won the Pro-Am class of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS).

Andrade commented on his team and race series change with the words: “I am very happy to contest the entire 2022 WEC season for Realteam by WRT. Promoting to the World Cup is a dream come true for me. I am proud to be my home country Angola to represent the highest level of long-distance sport. “

It has not yet been announced who will take the wheel of the two WRT Oreca alongside Gelael and Andrade in 2022.
