He also advises them to get a story from the person who has created the gravel or as a person responsible for the public space with the question of whether it is safe for them and their environment.
The municipality is conducting research and asks RIVM advice
That is exactly what the residents’ association of the neighborhood has done. He sent a letter to the municipality of Gooise Meren and project developer KNSF Vastgoed.
“We do not know exactly whether, where and in what quantities the steel snails have actually been used. This leads to concern among residents about the possible risks for the soil, the water and health,” says Floris Regouin chairman. “We hope to get clarity soon, so that residents know where they stand.”
Until today, the municipality of Gooise Meren was never aware that possibly steel snails have been incorporated in the gravel type on the courtyard. According to the municipality, the species called ‘Graustabiel’ meets all regulations and is considered safe.
Nevertheless, the municipality will do extra research in response to the recent news and has asked the Environment Agency and the RIVM for advice. “This way we want to be sure that there are no risks to health, especially in places where children play,” said the municipality, which says they take the concerns of the residents seriously. “Based on the advice, we determine in consultation with the project developer or further steps are needed.”
