The beach volleyball duo Huster/Just has secured gold at the World University Games. The water polo players also cheered.
The beach volleyball players Philipp Huster (SRH University) and Maximilian Just (Humboldt University Berlin) celebrated a sovereign 2-0 victory (21:13, 21:12) in the final against the Dutch Quinten Groenewald (University Leiden) and Tom Sondereville (Erasmus University of Rotterdam).
“That was our best game of the tournament and the result reflects that,” said Huster after the game. The blocks of 2.06-meter man Huster, who was successful on the net alone nine times, were particularly decisive. For comparison: the Dutch team only booked one block point.
So the German victory was never in danger. In both sentences, Huster/Just quickly pulled away and did not give the lead again. Huster converted the first match ball – of course with a block.
Water polo leave the USA no chance
The German water polo players also cheered over gold on Saturday after a 9: 6 success (1: 0, 2: 0, 2: 2, 4: 4) in the final against the USA. Above all, the German defensive shone, which did not allow an American hit at all in the first two quarters.
It was only in the third quarter the first two goal success, but closer to 4-2, the USA never came up. In the last quarter, the Americans left their own goal. But that backfired. In the meantime, Germany led 9-2. The United States came back in the last few minutes, but the victory of the German team was no longer at risk.
The best German thrower was captain Sinia Plotz from the University of Southern Carolina with three goals. Lauren and Jacquelin Cohen Walters (both UCLA) met with two goals for the United States.
Water polo players win dramatically bronze
On Saturday, the game was much more scarce. But here, too, the German team had the better end. Against Hungary, Germany secured the bronze medal in a dramatic way with 21:20 after shoot-out (6: 4, 5: 3, 2: 5, 1: 2, 7: 6.
Goalkeeper Max Spittank (SRH University) became hero, who held the litter of Balázs Nyíri in the shoot-out. Till Hofmann (SRH University) then converted the decisive throw. Previously, the German man’s chat had played a five-goal lead, but was still saving into the shoot-out and finally cheered over bronze.
