Wu Yize beats Englishman Shaun Murphy in a thrilling final – the last frame decides. For China it is the second World Cup title in a row.
At the age of 22, Wu Yize won the World Snooker Championship. The Chinese beat Englishman Shaun Murphy 18:17 in the final in Sheffield, England – the last of the 35 possible frames decided the game.
The decision was made in the fourth session at the Crucible Theater. Murphy fought back in the afternoon session and reduced the lead to 12:13. After the first day, Yize was already leading 10:7 – despite a false start.
Yize said after the win: “I think the decisive factor was belief. I’ve been working on it for years – and I’m happy to have achieved it.”
For China it is the second World Cup title in a row. Last year, Zhao Xintong defeated Welshman Mark Williams 18:12. Murphy last became world champion in 2005.
